Open Redact PDF to permanently black out and sanitize private, personal, or financial data.

What you will see:

The drop area accepts any PDF document containing confidential information.

Redaction permanently deletes the underlying text and vectors, preventing data recovery.

Step 2 of 7 File Browser (#fin)

Upload Sensitive PDF

What to do:

Select your confidential PDF file from your storage.

What you will see:

The document renders in the interactive redaction canvas viewer.

Next:

Locate the sensitive text blocks on the page.

What to do:

Navigate to the exact page where confidential text or numbers appear.

What you will see:

The canvas viewer displays the active page with full document legibility.

Tip:

You can redact multiple pages across the document in one session.

Step 4 of 7 Redaction Canvas (#editor, canvas)

Draw Blackout Redaction Box

What to do:

Click and drag a blackout rectangle directly over the private text.

What you will see:

An opaque solid black box covers the confidential content entirely.

Next:

Ensure the box covers all digits and surrounding text.

Tip:

Drag slightly past the edges of sensitive text to ensure full coverage.

Step 5 of 7 Blackout Overlay Preview

Inspect Redaction Coverage

What to do:

Review the drawn blackout boxes to confirm nothing sensitive is exposed.

What you will see:

Solid blackout blocks conceal all private numbers and names completely.

Next:

Add additional redaction boxes if other sections need sanitization.

Tip:

Check headers and footnotes for repeated account numbers or IDs.

Step 6 of 7 Save Action Button (button.btn-primary)

Click Save Redacted PDF

What to do:

What you will see:

The redaction engine removes the underlying text stream and bakes solid black vectors.

Next:

Wait for the preview frame to render.

Tip:

Text beneath redaction boxes cannot be highlighted, searched, or extracted by any tool.

Step 7 of 7 Download Dialog (#dlModal .btn-success)

Download Sanitized PDF

What to do:

Click "Download" to save your permanently sanitized PDF.

What you will see:

The download modal confirms your redacted document is safe for public release.

Next:

Save the sanitized PDF to your files.

Tip:

Your sanitized document is now legally safe for public filings or third-party audits.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Cover complete lines and nearby identifying context, not just the visible word.
  • Search or select text in the exported PDF to confirm sensitive content is no longer exposed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Redacting only a screenshot layer or forgetting another page.
  • Sharing the source PDF instead of the redacted output.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

If a box is misplaced, clear that page and redraw.

If text can still be selected outside a box, expand the redaction area and export again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is redaction reversible?

Treat the exported result as permanent, but retain the source privately.
